A turnkey contrast therapy installation for a boutique hotel, engineered for open-access use by 200+ daily guests — without the complexity of traditional wet area infrastructure.
At Surf House Byron Bay, the brief was to introduce a wellness offering that could operate as a seamless extension of the guest experience—accessible at any time, without bookings or supervision. This created a unique set of challenges: designing for high daily throughput (200+ users), ensuring durability under constant use, and delivering a compliant, high-performance environment within the spatial and operational constraints of an existing hotel. Traditional wet area solutions would have required significant plant, filtration and back-of-house space—adding cost, complexity and program risk.
Powered by RCVRI delivered a tailored contrast therapy solution anchored by a custom 20-person traditional sauna and Fjord plunge pods. The plunge pods were specifically recommended for their self-contained filtration and sanitation systems, removing the need for extensive hydraulic infrastructure and allowing for a far more efficient installation. This approach enabled us to meet the performance demands of high-volume, open-access use while simplifying coordination across design, services and construction.
The result is a robust, high-capacity wellness environment that integrates seamlessly into the hotel’s offering. Guests can access the space freely, with the system designed to handle peak usage without compromising performance or experience. For the operator, the solution reduces complexity across maintenance and plant requirements, while delivering a durable, commercially viable asset that enhances guest value and supports long-term operation.
A scalable, future-ready contrast therapy offering built for one of Sydney’s busiest fitness facilities — designed from day one to grow with membership demand.
At Tribe Fitness Kirawee, the objective was to integrate a high-performance contrast therapy offering within an existing gym environment—open to all members, without bookings, and designed to handle 250+ users per day with future growth in mind. The key challenge was balancing capacity, spatial efficiency and long-term scalability, while ensuring the system could maintain consistent water quality and temperature under heavy, continuous use. Unlike traditional spa environments, the space needed to operate as part of a high-traffic fitness facility, placing additional pressure on durability, flow and plant integration.
Powered by RCVRI worked alongside the project architect to consult on equipment integration, spatial planning and plant design, ensuring the wellness offering was both functional and scalable. The system was built around a modular sanitation and filtration approach, initially designed to support up to 150 users per day, with the ability to expand as demand increases. A balance tank system was introduced to manage high bather loads in the large-format plunge, allowing overflow water to be recirculated and replenished with chilled (not ambient) water, maintaining consistent temperature and performance. This was complemented by a 20-person sauna with a glass frontage, enhancing visibility and connection within the space while supporting high throughput.
The result is a future-ready contrast therapy environment that integrates seamlessly into Tribe’s broader fitness offering. The space comfortably supports high daily usage while maintaining performance, hygiene and user experience. For the operator, the modular system reduces upfront cost while allowing capacity to scale in line with membership growth, delivering a commercially efficient solution that avoids overbuilding on day one. The outcome is a durable, adaptable wellness asset that enhances member engagement and supports long-term business expansion.
At Revive Jindabyne, the owner had already invested in multiple Odin cold plunge baths designed for residential use, which were not suitable for the demands of a commercial recovery environment. The challenge was to retain this existing capital investment while overcoming limitations around water quality, temperature control and long-term performance. Without intervention, the system would struggle to meet the hygiene, durability and operational requirements of a high-use facility.
Powered by RCVRI engineered a retrofit solution that reconfigured the existing plunge baths into a fully integrated commercial system. The three pools were plumbed together as a single body of water, supported by a dedicated filtration and sanitation plant located in the ceiling space above to maximise usable floor area. A new chiller system was introduced to ensure consistent cooling performance across all seasons. This approach allowed the original baths to be retained, while significantly upgrading the underlying infrastructure to meet commercial standards.
The result is a commercially viable recovery environment built on existing assets, delivering reliable water clarity, hygiene and temperature control under ongoing use. The system now performs to the level required for a public-facing facility, without the need to replace the original plunge units. For the owner, this represents a significant
At Strong Recovery Sunnybank, the brief was to transform an existing, underperforming recovery space into a scalable wellness offering aligned with the Strong Pilates brand. The facility was limited by basic equipment, inefficient layout and inadequate drainage, with plant constraints that restricted performance and future growth. The challenge was to rework the wet area within an existing footprint, improve user flow, and introduce a system that could support both individual and group recovery—while simplifying hydraulics and avoiding major structural intervention.
Powered by RCVRI worked with the Strong team to redesign the wet area layout and upgrade the recovery offering, introducing multiple saunas and three plunge pods to accommodate both solo use and shared experiences. The system was rationalised through a simplified hydraulic design, enabled by a raised plinth and the relocation of plant and equipment to an external balcony, reducing complexity within the internal space. The redesign also addressed key functional gaps, including improved drainage, optimised shower placement and clearer zoning of hot and cold experiences, ensuring the space could operate efficiently under regular use.
The result is a repositioned, high-functioning recovery environment that elevates the member experience while remaining commercially efficient. The upgraded layout supports better flow, increased capacity and more flexible use, allowing Strong to test and validate their move into recovery with minimal risk. For the operator, the simplified plant strategy and improved wet area design reduce operational friction, delivering a more robust and scalable foundation for future rollout across additional sites.
Most projects don’t fail because demand isn’t there. They fall short because the execution doesn’t match how people actually use and value the space.
